Experienced leadership from Iain Skinner
Iain Skinner offers deep expertise across property valuations for tax, pensions, trusts and business purposes, alongside strategic advice on planning permission, land use and development in sensitive landscapes. His work is particularly relevant in areas like Haslemere, where the Surrey Hills and South Downs place additional demands on planning and environmental compliance.
Skinner Holden Chartered Surveyors & Property Advisors operates across Southern England and regularly advises clients throughout Surrey, West Sussex and the Haslemere area. With offices just over the county border in Midhurst, the firm is ideally located to serve landowners dealing with everything from countryside estates and woodland plots to development land and commercial property. Clients range from charities and private individuals to public bodies and corporate landowners.

Proven expertise in rural and specialist development
Company Director Iain Skinner BSc (Hons) FRICS, FALA, MAPM qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1995 and has built a career working on complex property and land projects across the UK. Since relocating back to the South Downs in 2009, he has concentrated on supporting landowners across Surrey and West Sussex, including those in and around Haslemere, with practical, commercially grounded advice.
His portfolio includes woodland and leisure developments, visitor and forest centres, holiday lodges, burial grounds and outdoor activity sites, as well as specialist land uses on MoD estates. This blend of strategic, environmental and commercial expertise makes him particularly well suited to advising Haslemere landowners operating within protected and high-value countryside settings.
Iain recently performed a land valuation for me and I found him to be professional, courteous and incredibly knowledgeable.
The valuation he provided, apart from being reasonably priced, went way over and above any I’d seen previously. It was extremely detailed and covered items and areas that provided exceptional added value. I very much look forward to working with Iain and Skinner Holden again in the future.

CASE STUDY
At Alice Holt Forest Iain worked closely with Forestry England and the Alice Holt Forest visitor team to explore options for new visitor facilities and create a detailed plan for the future. He then lead on the successful planning application, co-ordinating specialist reports and writing many of the reports and studies himself. The application was the first of its kind in the South Downs National Park and was granted with full officer support.
